diy: kitchen calendar station
As a toast to the new year, I decided to create a kitchen calendar work station. Our kitchen has a blank wall with an ugly phone jack sticking out that I thought would work perfect to keep a family calendar, collect mail, and hold pens and other items that usually end up on the kitchen counter somewhere. I love how it turned out! And, it only cost me about $30.00 to make and 30 minutes to put together. You could definitely make it for way cheaper, I just happened to want a specific calendar from Sugar Paper and a Nate Berkus mail holder (love me some Nate Berkus!)

SUPPLIES
* Chalkboard plywood - - I found mine at the local hardware store. You could definitely just use regular plywood and it would be a lot cheaper, I just wanted to have the option of writing with chalk on mine and being able to erase it easily.
* Calendar - - I used a pre-made calendar I bought by Sugar Paper. However, if you want to use a free calendar that you can print off on your own, I found some wonderful ones out there! We don't have a printer and it was easier for me to buy this one. You could also draw your own calendar on the chalkboard or use a dry-erase board!

* Shelf - - We already had this shelf from our apartment and it just so happened to be the perfect length! If I hadn't had this one, I would have just cut a piece of plywood to the length I needed, painted it (maybe), and added brackets (you can find brackets for less than $1.00 at your local hardware store - don't buy expensive ones from other stores)
* Mail sleeve - - I bought this Nate Berkus hanging organizer from Target.
* Screws - - I used 1" screws to screw the shelf into place as well as the hanging organizer.
* Nails - - This is optional. I gently nailed my calendar into place because I wanted to be able to change it out for next year. You could tape yours on instead or use large rubber bands to secure it in place.
* Hanging brackets - - I used heavy duty picture frame hanging brackets from the local hardware store to make sure the entire piece was secured to the wall and would not fall off easily!
I hope you have fun creating a calendar station of your own! Get creative, use stuff you already have, and customize it to your family! :)
