our hutch makeover

Remember that beautiful hutch I bought off someone for $100 when I first moved into our apartment? Well, upon moving into our new home, I realized that it needed a makeover. I loved how it was painted before, but since our kitchen is small, I wanted to be able to display all of my dishes on it and really make it look cleaner. So, I painted it white.

Here is a look at the hutch before when it was in our apartment.

And here it is now, all painted white. It ended up taking 5 coats of white paint and primer (I used Valspar Signature Paint and Primer in Pure Bright White)

I still need to reattach the bottom cabinets, but have been debating about whether to use stainless steel knobs and handles or to go with a aged bronze that matches the door knobs and other hardware throughout the house. I'm leaning toward the stainless just because I think it would keep the clean look of the hutch.

Left to do in the kitchen:

* Paint the kitchen cabinets (currently they are an off-white and I'd love them to be the same bright white as the hutch and trim)
* Replace hardware on the cabinets
* Touch up trim paint
* Paint door and 2 windows white (currently they are wood like the rest of the trim and doors in the house)
* Replace appliances (stage 2)
* Update door hardware
* Add an island or butcher block table
* Potentially take out top of the wall between the kitchen and dining room to open it up (stage 2)
* Potentially add french doors to the screened porch, replacing the current door and single window

I'll be revealing more photos and layout of the house as well as our full project to do list tomorrow!
