hello, home: front door changes

Drew and I decided before we moved into our house that we wanted to paint our front door a fun, bright color. So, after moving in, we went and picked out several paint swatches to bring home and look at. I decided that a red hue would look amazing against the pewter color of the house, so I proceeded to pick out the shade of red that I thought looked just right. This weekend, we decided to upgrade the security of the house by replacing the door knobs and locks. So, of course, it meant a wonderful opportunity to make our front door paint dreams come true :) AND it just so happens that the color works perfectly with my Christmas wreath!!

So here is the door before the paint job. Notice that old door handle and the rusty old door knocker? I don't mind the door knocker so much except that it also had the previous owner's name engraved on it and was a little past saving.

So here is the door after the paint job!! I just love how much difference it makes to the house. :) So nice.

And of course, the wreath I made. I wanted something that looked a little more white with touches of green and natural looking pine cones and berries. I love how it has more of a natural, came-out-of-the-wintery-woods look to it. I need to get some fishing wire to hang the wreath more centered on the window, but besides that, I am loving the difference!

We also added a generic door mat that was on sale at Target. I would really love a wider door mat that does a little bit better of a job at cleaning off people's feet before entering the house, but this was a good temporary solution.

Next, I'm hoping to add some potted plants on either side of the door as well as power wash the brick floor. :)
