let's make habits: intro + choosing a goal
It's starting to be that time of year. The time of year that everyone starts to realize that their "2013 Year Resolutions" aren't happening. With the newness of fall approaching and school starting, a lot of people get re-inspired at this time to try and get some of their resolutions accomplished. Some over-achievers look at their resolution list, realize they haven't done anything, and then try to accomplish everything in a short amount of time... usually resulting in disaster, tears, and lots of Starbucks trips. And some of us look at our list with a more pessimistic eye, seeing there is no hope and giving up completely. Even though there are still 5 months left in the year, we just shrug it off, hoping that next year will prove to be more successful.
Well, I'm tired of it. There are definitely a lot of things that I want to do - dreams I have, goals that I want to accomplish, and hopes of growing myself personally. I don't like being limited to the pressure of "new year resolutions" or waiting until the beginning of the year to accomplish anything. I want to do those things NOW. I know, I know... I need to calm it down. It's just that I hate the feeling of failure or feeling like I'm wasting my time not accomplishing the things I want to - so I decided I want to do something about it.
Now, as you may know, Savannah and I already have a "Make It Happen" post series where we talk about how to make your dreams a reality. This series is mostly talking about our advice and story of pursuing our dreams, creating our own business, and going full time with it. But, there are other goals and habits I want to form or accomplish, but that I'm having more trouble with. Mainly because of these 3 reasons:
With all this in mind, I want to do something I've never done before. I thought it would be really neat for us to all decide on one goal that we would like to accomplish over the next 2 months. It could be anything from working out, eating healthy, blogging more consistently, challenging yourself to read more books, keeping a tidy house, meal planning, having quiet time, taking a photo every day, growing in a skill, or anything you can think of!
Once you decide your goal, write about it - why you chose that goal, what you want to get out of it, and where you'd like to be at the end of 2 months. Every Saturday, I'll be posting about where I am with my goal and sharing a different topic (see schedule below) as a form of accountability to you all. I would love it if everybody wrote once a week and linked up to this post - you can write about the topic or just a general update on your goal.
Now, write about your goal and why you want to accomplish it! Next week, we will write out our schedule and plan of action for accomplishing our goals.

This series is mostly talking about our advice and story of pursuing our dreams, creating our own business, and going full time with it. But, there are other goals and habits I want to form or accomplish, but that I'm having more trouble with. Mainly because of these 3 reasons:
1 // Accountability
In order to be successful at most goals, I believe it's important to have at least one person who knows about your goal and who you feel accountable to if you don't accomplish it. This helps so that you don't give up the goal and also gives you someone to encourage you through it.2 // Time
Giving yourself enough time to accomplish a goal is extremely important. Most of the time, this is where I mess up. I don't allow myself dedicated time to accomplish what I want or I don't make it a priority and, therefore, it doesn't get done.3 // Motivation
This one is tricky. I think a lot of times I struggle with accomplishing a goal because I haven't really thought through the why of what I'm doing. I haven't really asked myself why I want to accomplish a goal, why it will be good to do, and what I want to walk away with. Without that motivation, it's easy to dismiss a goal, forgetting why I'm doing it in the first place. With all this in mind, I want to do something I've never done before. I thought it would be really neat for us to all decide on one goal that we would like to accomplish over the next 2 months. WHY 2 MONTHS?
I chose 2 months because I feel like it is a great amount of time to not only create a habit, but to accomplish many small goals. If this goes well, I will probably do another one, maybe 3 months instead of 2. We will see.MY GOAL:
I have been on-again off-again with working out for MONTHS now. I am going to be writing about my goal of working out consistently. The motivation behind this is not only to be healthier, but also because I want to get in shape for being a mom one day. I used to be really active and played soccer, which kept me in great shape, but now that I'm working from home on my computer all day I've been a huge lump on a log. I would love to have more energy, get my heart and lungs into great shape, and see a few pounds drop off around my "love" handles that I don't love so much... ;)Now, write about your goal and why you want to accomplish it! Next week, we will write out our schedule and plan of action for accomplishing our goals.
