I had so much fun making this kitty cat print dress! As you can see from the before and after photos below, it was a great dress before, just a little plain for my taste. I had gotten the dress from a clothing swap and loved how comfortable it was. So I decided it would be fun to try adding a little something extra to it. :)

When stamping the dress, I didn't try hard to make it perfect because I wanted more of a textured, imperfect look. So how do you make one of your own? Here are the steps I did to make mine:

SUPPLIES:

  • Fabric paint
  • Cardboard
  • Paintbrush
  • Something to put inside your piece of clothing so that paint doesn't seep through to the back. I used some thick paper, but I'm sure there's something better you could use.

STEP 1:

Prep your area. Place a piece of thick paper or cardboard or something else underneath the fabric you are going to stamp. Make sure it's positioned so that paint doesn't accidentally seep through to the back. Then, smooth out your fabric so there are no wrinkles or weird bumps that might cause the stamp to appear  uneven or misplaced.

STEP 2:

Cut out your stamp shape from a piece of thick cardboard. Try to keep it simple - it's easier that way. Optional: If you want to be more precise, instead of using cardboard, cut out your shape from a piece of foam. You can even attach the piece of foam to a small wood block for better handling.

STEP 3:

Using fabric paint, coat one side of your stamp using a paintbrush.

STEP 4:

Carefully place your stamp on your fabric and repeat until finished.
