new post series - hello, home

When I first started this blog, I had a series called "Apartment Tour" where I showed details of decorating our small apartment and how I tried to make it home for us. Now, I'm excited to introduce to you a new series I'm calling, "Hello, Home". Over the past year and a half, we have quickly outgrown this space. When Drew and I first moved into our apartment, we imagined living here about 2 years. We thought at that time, we would start looking for a house and beginning the process of trying to start a family. Little did we know that all of that would be pushed forward almost 6 months earlier than expected! Life happens, right? :)

Drew and I have been looking online at houses for about 3 - 4 months now, just curious to see what was out there and not knowing how long it might take us to find the right house. Then, we found out we were pregnant! And suddenly, we were even more inspired to find a bigger space. :) So, we got a realtor and started really looking around. After two Saturdays of looking at houses, we found "the one". Haha. As we walked up to the house, a peace filled our hearts and we just knew that this is where we wanted to be. After looking around inside and figuring out there weren't any huge red flags, we fell even more in love. I looked at Drew and I said, "This is our house, babe." He felt the same way. We could picture our family there - sitting by the stone fireplace in the den, having a cookout on the back porch, or the kids riding bikes in the cul-de-sac. We agreed from the start that we weren't looking for our "forever home," but at least wanted somewhere we could stay 5 - 10 years.

After talking with our realtor, we decided to make an offer on the house. It was way under our budget, which was a huge plus, and had just been on the market for 8 days. More good signs. We figured out Drew's commute to work would be under 10 minutes and the house was minutes away from almost everything we needed. Even more good signs. A few days later, we heard back from the seller and they counter-offered. We countered again. And then, they accepted. The most stressful part was waiting to hear back from them after making the first offer. I really had to let go and trust that if this was our house, that it would work out. And that if it wasn't, that was okay, too. It was really hard to not get too excited and have the whole house mentally decorated before hearing the final answer. :) Drew had to remind me several times that it wasn't our home yet.

Now we are in the process of getting paperwork signed, getting an inspector, and all the other fun stuff that comes along with buying a house. It's nice having a best friend who just went through this process. If you are thinking about buying a house or are in the process, be sure to check out Savannah's post on The Home Buying Process - it's extremely helpful! The whole process of buying a house can be a huge stress and an unknown that's hard to wrap your head around.

We look forward to sharing updates and photos along the way! We also have already written out a huge list of projects we would love to complete and my head is full of home DIY ideas that I can't wait to share. :)
