uniquely you: pampering

When I think of pampering, I think of high maintenance. And I do not want to be high maintenance. However, recently, I've come to realize that pampering doesn't mean that I'm "high maintenance" - it simply means that I'm taking care of myself. Just like exercising and eating healthy take care of your physical health, pampering takes care of your emotional / mental health. I never would have thought that taking a warm bath every now and then or painting my nails every other week would have such an impact on me. But, it does.

Now, let's be real. I don't have the money to go to the spa or get a professional massage. But, I've found that a little bit goes a long way. Here are some inexpensive ways in which you can pamper yourself this week.

SIT IN PEACE & QUIET

Find a place that you can sit in peace and quiet for an hour. Maybe bring a magazine or a book. Maybe just bring a hot beverage. Whatever you choose - just enjoy the silence for a while and let your mind relax.

SOAK IN A BATH

I'm usually in too much of a rush to take a bath. But when I take the time to soak in a warm bath, it makes all the difference. I can feel stress melting off of me and the scent of lavender or lemon bath bubbles puts me at ease.

PAINT YOUR NAILS

This one is simple: make a habit of painting your nails and/or toenails. I don't always want my nails painted, so I tend to do this every other week. But the simple act of taking the time to paint my nails is an act of self love.

ENJOY THE OUTDOORS

We live by the river and I love going out and sitting alone down by the river. Just hearing the rushing water and the sounds of nature puts me at ease. Maybe go to a park or somewhere nearby that you can enjoy the outdoors.

REVITALIZE YOUR HAIR

Spend a little money on a hair product you wouldn't normally buy. I love the Roots hair treatment by LUSH - it creates a tingly mint sensation and leaves your hair feeling strong and fresh. You could also try soaking your hair in a hot oil treatment.

MASK IT UP

Put on a face mask! I've found a lot of face masks I love in the checkout line at Ulta for $1. It's an easy way to make yourself feel refreshed and relaxed. Maybe even cut up some cucumber for your eyes to make it feel like you are really having the full experience.

DRINK SOMETHING WARM

Even in the summer, I enjoy a cup of hot tea at night. Somehow, it soothes and relaxes me.
