diy: glitter heels

This past week, I picked out my outfit for the Mixer! I'm so excited about wearing it at the event and can't wait to see what everyone else was able to pick out. After picking out my outfit, I really wanted to find some glitter heels to go with it, but everywhere I looked they were way out of my price range. So, what does a girl do? I decided to make some!

After looking through my closet, I decided to use my wedding shoes as the test subject. For my wedding, I decided to go with comfort instead of style since we had an outdoor ceremony. I found some 2 inch heels from Urban Outfitters last spring that were a nude/ivory color and they were so comfortable and worked perfectly for our wedding. But, being ivory and not that attractive, I haven't worn them since. Solution? Glitter those bad boys.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

* Glitter of your choice
* A paint brush
* Tacky Glue
* A safe place to get glitter everywhere

HOW TO GLITTER YOUR SHOES

1 // Working in small sections, apply a good amount of glue to your shoes.
2 // Spread glue evenly with the paint brush.
3 // Pour glitter over the section and brush off extra.
4 // Repeat over entire shoe.

My shoes didn't have laces or really tough-to-get-to areas, so it was pretty simple. If you decide to try this on more difficult shoes, I would suggest going slowly and being extra careful around the tough areas. Be sure to take out the laces beforehand and prep the shoes as best as possible. After glittering, I placed my shoes on some cardboard in a safe area of the house and let them dry for 24 hours. Then, I went back and brushed off any extra glitter and cleaned up the edges. And voila! I'm a fairy princess...or Drew's worst nightmare (he claims to be "allergic" to glitter)...
