diy: sliced wood chalkboard

I've been trying to do more DIY projects around our home to add personal touches and really incorporate some fun details to make it unique. When planning our wedding, I found a lot of wood chalkboards for sale and knew that I wanted to try to make one myself. If we weren't living in an apartment, I would totally paint the whole front of my fridge in chalkboard paint because I just hate the white. However, I would be in a lot of trouble if I did that. So...solution: why not make a cute chalkboard to go on the fridge instead!!

I hope you enjoy this simple and fun DIY project!

sliced wood chalkboard diy

supplies needed

1. A piece of thinly sliced wood. (I found mine at Michael's)
2. About 2 feet of magnetic tape.
3. Chalkboard paint (liquid paint is easier, however, spray paint works too)

STEP ONE

Paint the wood with the chalkboard paint. Since I used spray paint, I taped the edges of the wood beforehand so that I didn't spray paint the edges. Wait 24 hours for the paint to dry.

STEP TWO

Cut 4-6 inch strips of the magnetic tape. Place them on the back side of the wood. I suggest using more tape to make sure that it holds the weight of the wood.

And you're done! Use it on your fridge as a nice decorative piece, write tonight's dinner menu, or leave your beau a love note!
